RIM launched their BlackBerry App World onboard application store at CTIA on 1 April 2009. The App World application lets you purchase and download applications to your supported RIM BlackBerry device. Apps can be free (30% were at launch) or priced from US$2.99 and up. You can read reviews, download some trials, view screenshots, and provide feedback for the applications.
The application is now on the Curve 8900 and ready to launch.
When you launch the App World icons and information of the top 15 featured items appear on the upper part of the screen.
Slacker is one of the featured apps and one of my favorite streaming music applications on the BlackBerry platform.
Facebook is another popular BlackBerry app. If you have it already on your device, it will prompt you to reinstall so you won't have two copies.
You can select to purchase applications and even have to select this option when the applications are available for free.
You can view reviews of applications on your BlackBerry device.
There are several different ways you can recommend the application for others to try.
There are different screenshots to view so you get a feel of the application before downloading it.
The application status is displayed on the screen as you download the application.
If you already have an application on your device you may see this prompt. This applies for those who already bought apps from other stores and want to now use BB App World.
One way to view the available apps on App World is to select categories.
There are categories and subcategories for all the applications on the BB App World.
You can see the application name, price, and rating.
You can see what the top downloads are and use this as a type of filter for the App World.
You can select the icon to search for apps too.
The My World page shows what apps you have purchased and installed.
Here you can see the downloads are organized by most popular.
Simply enter in a search term to look for a specific application.
The left menu can be used if you don't want to scroll through icons.
PayPal is needed before you can purchase applications through the BB App World.
Sometimes there are trial options for the applications, but not with this one.
This warning pops-up to educate you.
After you enter your PayPal details your account is verified.
Your purchase price, tax, and total appear here. You can decide to cancel and nothing will be charged to your account.
This $199.99 application was the most expensive one I could find in the App World store.
