Image Gallery: Hands-on with the T-Mobile Dash 3G
The T-Mobile Dash was a very popular Windows Mobile smartphone for T-Mobile USA and smartphone fans have been waiting patiently for a follow-up non-touchscreen device. HTC and T-Mobile will soon be bringing the T-Mobile Dash 3G with faster processor, 3G data support, and integrated GPS to T-Mobile customers.
The back shows the Dash 3G and lists the specifications and features.
The top flap holds all the written materials while the Dash 3G and accessories are on the right in the main compartment.
Presenting the T-Mobile Dash 3G.
This is what you will find in the top compartment of the retail box. The small Tips & Tricks pamphlet is helpful.
You will find an A/C charger, slip case, wired stereo headset, USB cable, and audio adapter in the box under the Dash 3G.
The Dash 3G has the HTC USB port for syncing, charging, and headset so you can plug in this dongle to use your standard 3.5mm headset or a 2.5mm headset to listen to your music.
A sizable battery is included with the Dash 3G to keep you going for at least a day or two.
The keyboard has been completely redesigned over the T-Mobile Dash and is much improved. It is quite large for a front facing QWERTY device and is a pleasure to use.
The numbers are arranged in a phone keypad layout and are accessed by pressing the ALT key. They have red highlights too, that matches the ALT key.
A trackball, similar to a BlackBerry Curve or Pearl, is used on the Dash 3G rather than a more standard Windows Mobile directional pad. It is quite responsive and nice to use with one-handed operations.
The send and end buttons are located at the outermost position on the hardware button row. There are right and left soft keys next to the Home and back buttons too.

As you can see it is a fairly compact device with some length for the large keyboard.
The 2 megapixel camera actually takes fairly decent snapshots that you can share using the new Microsoft Facebook application.
The back is fairly simple and has that great soft touch feel. The entire back lifts off to reveal the battery, SIM card, and microSD card slot.
The USB port is used for syncing, charging, and a wired headset.
The volume button is a single button where you press the upper or lower part to increase or decrease volume.
Can you see the red specks in the casing color scheme? It is an attractive device.
Here you can see the back cover that comes off completely. It is a bit difficult to remove when you don't have any fingernails.
The slots are located along the bottom of the back. The battery must be removed to put the SIM card in or take it out.
Here you can clearly see the original T-Mobile Dash compared to the Dash 3G and the significant change in the keyboard design.
The Dash 3G is obviously longer than the existing Dash.
The thickness is about the same between the two devices.
The button layout is a bit different with the power now being managed with the Red end button like most mobile phones.
The Dash 3G feels great in your hand and should do well with T-Mobile.
