An open-source design in a world of proprietary fonts, DejaVu is catching on for some flavors of Linux.

DejaVu font

DejaVu is a font developed in open-source fashion, based on a Bitstream design called Vera. While work on Vera has largely stalled, DejaVu has become the default font for an Ubuntu version of Linux, and is in the running to become the default for Red Hat's Fedora.
