Jawbone Jambox rocks the tunes and the conference calls

There are plenty of wireless speaker solutions out there, but the Jambox from Jawbone really sets the bar with a small size and big sound that blew me away. Is this little speaker worth the $199.99?

Back in my youth, boomboxes were a popular way to enjoy loud music on the go. The Jawbone Jambox comes in a box stating "That was then" on the outside.

Check out my full ZDNet Mobile Gadgeteer blog post for more detailed thoughts on the device and a video of it in action.

I though the Jambox would be a lot bigger and then after taking off the box top cover I noticed it is quite small with the words, "This is now" shown just below the speaker.

There are some very simple guidelines to get you up and running with the Jambox.

Inside the box you will find a case, User Guide, charger, two different sized USB cables, and a 3.5mm headset cable. Everything you need is included.

The Jambox charges via a microUSB port and this is also used to update the firmware and customize the device with the MyTALK utility on a PC or Mac.

The neoprene case folds down flat and then fits nicely on the Jambox. It has magnetic flaps on the end to hold it in the case and keep it protected.

The Jambox is protected for traveling in your bag within the case.

The case folds down flat when not in use too.

The speaker is one of the highest quality accessories I have ever tested out with solid construction and cool materials. This is the black one, but it also comes in other colors.

There are three buttons on top of the Jambox that let you control volume and status information. They are rubberized and easy to press and use.

There is a power button, 3.5mm headset jack, and microUSB port on one end. All the business is done on this side of the Jambox.

Two cable sizes with labels on the cables so you know they go with the Jambox unit.
