Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon notebook -- hands-on photos

Lenovo has upped its game with the ThinkPad X1 Carbon. This ultrathin laptop fits a 14-inch high-res IPS display into the chassis of a 13-inch MacBook Air. The SSD and Core i7 processor make this a powerful addition to the road warrior's travel bag.

The X1 is as thin and light as a MacBook Air yet has the advantages a ThinkPad brings to the road Warrior. With a 14-inch IPS display that's crammed into a 13-inch chassis, the X1 at less than 3 lbs. is as portable as notebooks get.

ThinkPads are known for their nice keyboards and the X1 Carbon continues that tradition. The chiclet keys have a special shape designed to minimize typos and in our testing they deliver.

The outstanding keyboard has the typical ThinkPad red trackstick and the nicest trackpad (glass) the reiewer has ever used on a Windows laptop.

The chiclet keys have a special shape that facilitates fast typing with few errors. The tactile feedback of the keys is very good for an island keys format.

To keep the laptop so thin, Lenovo has adopted a special flat power connector. This USB look-alike accepts the power plug from the adapter and is easy to plug/unplug compared to other laptops.

The IPS display on the test unit is very bright and can be viewed clearly from quite an angle. The screen has a matte finish and no reflections marring the display.
