Nodus Access Case 2 for the iPhone 7 Plus

Thanks to payment services like Apple Pay, you can now go out with an ID and your iPhone without having to carry a huge wallet. Many of us also use commuter cards for the train or ferry, along with access cards to get into the office. Thus, a case with pockets for just a few cards makes sense.

Nodus creates high end leather cases for the iPhone and iPad, along with leather wallets, and for the last couple of weeks I have been testing the new Access Case 2 for the iPhone 7 Plus. The Chestnut Brown one was sent along with other available colors including Ebony Black, Dark Teal, and Taupe Grey. Each is priced at $68.79.

Inside the Nodus Access Case 2

With the micro suction strip, you simply position your iPhone 7 Plus so that the cameras and flash are in the rear opening and then press it into place. I've been very impressed by the strength of the micro suction strip to hold my iPhone 7 Plus in place and have yet to experience any fault in this securing method. It's nice to quickly and easily be able to insert and remove your iPhone while trusting that it will remain in place when you put it in the case.

Micro suction strip on the back flap of the case

These type of portfolio cases interest me because I can then carry a few essential cards and leave the wallet behind. The securing method for the Nodus Access Case 2 is unique in that it uses micro suction technology along a strip mounted on the inside bottom piece where you rest your iPhone. In the past I have seen a plastic insert frame used to secure your phone, but really like this simple solution.

iPhone 7 Plus mounted in the case

The inside has soft black microfibre material to protect your iPhone with a leather strip sewn along the left side of the inside front panel. This strip serves as a pocket for your cards, with room for up to three cards. The Nodus logo, name, and established date are embedded in this strip.

Rear camera cutout

The rear opening is ample enough for the dual cameras and flash, without hindering the ability to capture a photo with your iPhone.

Used as a kickstand

You will also notice a crease in the leather on the back and it turns out this is designed for the case to act as a kickstand for watching video content. I use my phones for media all of the time so this added capability is important to my usage.

Micro Dock retail package contents

In addition to the Access Case 2, Nodus sent along its two pack of Micro Docks. These small magnets are compatible with the Access Case 2 and Shell Case. You take the small dock and attach it to places you want to mount your iPhone, such as your vehicle dash, office desk, kitchen wall, or other area where it would be convenient to have your iPhone located.

Mounting a Micro Dock to my car dash

I tested out the Micro Dock on my car dash. Attach the 3M adhesive pad to your location and then let it cure in place for about 24 hours. You can then set the Access Case 2 on the 20x20x6 mm Micro Dock and know it will stay in place.

iPhone 7 Plus secure in the car

A metal insert piece is found inside the back central area of the Access Case 2 so it then secures via strong magnets to the Micro Dock. There is magnetic shielding in the Access Case 2 so your iPhone is not messed up while using the Micro Dock. A pair of Micro Docks is priced at about $25.
