The camera and flash are open on the back and from testing I did not see an impact on the flash performance.

The bottom looks exposed just in the hard shell, but when you place the outer piece on you will see that covers protect these areas from dust.

OtterBox has improved the way these cases attach and the rubber outer shell snaps securely around the perimter of the hard shell inner casing.
