Next-generation Kindle slims down and speeds up
Amazon's latest version of the Kindle ebook reader, available to UK customers from 27 August, features a number of improvements over previous versions.

The new Kindle model is more compact than its predecessor (21 per cent smaller size and 15 per cent lighter) and has double the storage (increasing its capacity to 3,500 books).

The updated Kindle includes a new electronic-ink screen with 50 per cent better contrast, a lighted book cover, text-to-speech capability, a new web browser and faster page turns.

Prices range from £109 (for the Kindle Wi-Fi, without free 3G wireless) to £149 (with free 3G wireless).The device has up to one month of battery life with wireless switched off (and up to 10 days battery life with wireless on).

Ebooks can be purchased from the new UK Kindle Store, also launching on 27 August, and can be read on the Kindle, Kindle DX, iPad, iPod touch, iPhone, Mac, PC, and Android-based devices.
