eMagin microdisplays

The 22nd annual Flat Information Displays conference in San Francisco this week showcased the latest advancements in LCD, plasma and projection technology. Among those on hand was video display maker eMagin, which has created microdisplays smaller than a quarter to power stereovision goggles for viewing movies, games and other content in 3D. The .59-inch screen is based on Organic Light Emitting Diode, or OLED, technology, which is made of carbon-based molecules. The screen adapts to 800 by 600 full color pixels and is capable of displaying 16.7 million colors.

Z800 visor

This Z800 visor by Japan's eMagin allows for interactive 3D video game content, or the equivalent to a 105-inch screen viewed at 12 feet, in full-color stereovision. Two high-contrast microdisplays inside the visor allow for full-motion video in more than 16.7 million colors. The visor, which retails for $899, also has a head-tracking system that allows for a 360-degree angle of view.
