Social network site upgrades its Messages service to unite different communication methods
Facebook has unveiled an upgrade to its Messages system that adds instant chat conversations, SMS text messages and email to the communication channels that the system supports.
Dubbed the 'social inbox', the system means users can view conversation threads that have taken place via all of these channels in a single location.
Previously, the Messages section of Facebook was for messages sent between users within Facebook - now users can choose to link up other communication technology to their Facebook profile as well.
Shown above is the Facebook homepage with the familiar news feed overlaid by the prompt screen that lets users upgrade to the latest version of Messages.
