Mighty Finn shows what Symbian^3 can do...

Nokia has announced the N8 - its first smartphone to run the latest iteration of the open source Symbian OS: ^3.

The 3.5-inch capacitive touchscreen handset will be the Mighty Finn's first to support multitouch gestures such as pinch to zoom and kinetic scrolling - support for which is included in Symbian^3.

It is also the mobile maker's first device to be integrated with the cross-platform application developer framework, Qt.

The N8 has been skinned with a proprietary UI which Nokia said offers mobile users a streamlined menu structure, a visual task switcher for multitasking, and can be personalised by apps and widgets on the homescreen.

Like many other socially focused handsets, the N8 can also combine feeds from social network services such as Facebook and Twitter into a single stream on the homescreen.
