Going full tilt

Nokia has revealed the latest addition to its Nseries family of smartphones - the N97.

The N97 is aimed at mobile web addicts with a 3.5-inch, 16:9 touchscreen in addition to a slideout Qwerty keyboard.

Unlike the iPhone, the Symbian-based mobile supports Flash - and its screen can be tilted for easier reading of all that web content.

If the screen tempts you to a video-viewing marathon, Nokia advises the battery will support four-and-a-half hours of telly in offline mode.

For the more social networking-minded, the home screen can be customised with widgets which give one-click access to web apps including Facebook.

The contents of the homescreen can be reordered by dragging and dropping, and the icons automatically rearrange themselves depending on whether the phone is being held horizontally or vertically.

The N97 comes with all the connectivity options you'd expect: Bluetooth, wi-fi and HSDPA.

Nokia hopes the device's GPS, maps and electronic compass will encourage users to update their 'social location' and share it with social networking buddies - or just find a way to get from A to B.

The flagship device comes with a five-megapixel camera and Carl Zeiss lens, alongside 32GB of onboard storage, which can be expanded out to 48GB with a memory card.

The device is expected to go on sale in the first half of next year.
