Victorian Premier, John Brumby was all smiles as he conducted the proceedings at Wipro's new Melbourne development centre alongside Rajat Mathur, Wipro's senior vice president and chief sales and operations officer.
The centre, located in South Melbourne, will provide consulting, software development, testing and business process services to domestic and global companies in Australia, including Origin Energy.
Speaking at the inauguration, Brumby stated "I congratulate Wipro for its decision to open one of its world-class development centres here in Melbourne. Today's announcement re-affirms why Victoria is a great place to do business with a growing economy, highly skilled workforce and supportive government."
Rajat Mathur, senior VP and chief sales and operations officer also spoke at the ceremony stating, "Wipro is extremely pleased to be increasing its investment in Australia by establishing this new centre in Melbourne. Australia is an important market for us and we enjoy a good deal of business success here as Australian companies demonstrate a continued appetite for our global service delivery model."
Following the inauguration, Brumby toured the centre, which first opened in December 2009.
Currently the South Melbourne office employs around 130 staff, with plans to increase numbers as the business grows.
Brumby also took time to talk to some of the staff, most of whom were locals.
The new centre extends Wipro's existing presence in Paramatta, NSW and Adelaide, SA.
Following the official proceedings, guests mingled at a morning tea.
