Google recently announced a new Gmail (Google Mail in the UK) feature that promises to give you the option to check email from other POP accounts through your Gmail interface. Although Mail Fetcher has not yet been rolled out, we have some screenshots.
In your Gmail settings, you will notice a new area labelled 'Get mail from other accounts'. Click the 'Add another mail account' link here, and it will help you set up your first account.
Type your email address here to begin the setup process.
Enter your email account settings on this screen. If you use a mail client like Outlook, you use those same settings in your Gmail.
You are then given the option to send messages using that account as well. If you choose this option, the 'compose' screen allows you to choose which email address you want messages to come from with a dropdown.
When viewing your accounts, you can see some statistics including how long ago that account was checked, and how many messages were downloaded.
As you can see, messages from your POP accounts are pretty much indistinguishable from other Gmail messages. The downloaded messages have a unique label though — allowing you to sort and search through them.
