    As you might expect, there is a vast array of job-search apps on the market. Monster is one of the biggest job sites on the web, and its mobile app scores points for its simplicity of design.

    The main menu allows users to navigate from job searches to saved searches, CVs, cover letters and application history — so you're in no danger of applying for the same job twice.

    The app is available free for Android and iPhone (an iPad version is currently only available in the US).

    The ScanBizCards app for iPhone and Android automatically scans business cards, lifts the contact details and stores them in your phone.

    The app syncs with Excel, the web and Skype, and supports 22 languages. The business cards you gather can be viewed in a cover flow-style display. However, the iPhone 3G version only works with a close-up lens accessory.

    The free Lite version only allows you to scan in two cards per week to the address book; the full version costs £2.46 for Android, £3.99 for iPhone.
