Top widgets for the Nexus 7

Android means widgets, and the large, high-res display of the Nexus 7 is tailor-made for them. These are some good widgets to put on your Nexus 7 home screens. Widgets are great on the Nexus 7 due to the Jelly Bean version of Android, which allows resizing any widget to fit the way you prefer.

Beautiful Widgets

The top two widgets in this screen are both from Beautiful Widgets, which allows customization of the clock and weather info on the home screen.

There are hundreds of free skins to download within the settings to make your Nexus 7 home screen your own.

Fancy Widgets

Another clock/weather widget is Fancy Widgets. While not as many skins are available as in Beautiful Widgets, this one is quite good for customizing the appearance of the Nexus 7 home screen.

Flipboard

Many Android apps install widgets for use on the home screen, and the Flipboard widget is a great way to keep up with what is important to you.

It can be set to automatically refresh at a specified interval or set to manual refresh by tapping the icon on the widget.

HD Widgets

Another clock/weather widget for the Nexus 7, HD Widgets is my favorite as it has several different sizes to choose from.

Everything on this widget is customizable to make it just right. HD Widgets handles screen rotation nicely, as demonstrated in this and the following screen.

FlightTracker Pro

The FlightTracker app is the best way to keep up with upcoming flights, and the Pro version syncs with TripIt.

The app installs this widget which is a wonderful way to keep up with flights for frequent travelers.

Looks like I need to get traveling.
