Political site Analysis Malaysia goes live

Malaysiakini chief executive officer Premesh Chandran said on his Web site that there is a "great demand" for detailed information surrounding political events in Malaysia.

"So we are providing them something from the local perspective," he said. Analysis Malaysia was created by Malaysiakini unit Strategic Analysis Malaysia (SAM), which is headed by senior analyst James Wong.

The publication will feature weekly media reporting providing analyses of main news items as well as a fortnightly current affairs report featuring in-depth analysis of main current issues, events, individuals and organizations and the latest political developments.

Wong was reported as saying that Analysis Malaysia would be a good guide for decision-makers as the analysis presented would also take in the views of the masses.

"A lot of foreign news periodicals may be able to provide news and opinions but they are mainly written from the English-educated upper-middle class’s point of view," he said.

But the content is not free; it is priced at a steep price of RM3,800 (US$1,000) per year. Analysis Malaysia hopes to have 250 subscribers by the end of the year.
