At its core, M2M is all about tiny sensors that collect data and automatically transmit that data to servers or the cloud, where it can quickly be translated into useful analysis.

The end game is to get deeper insights and real-time feedback that can help you make faster and better decisions. This obviously ties into big data and there are certain industries -- such as manufacturing, health care, and public utilities -- where this is going to have a huge impact in the immediate future.
