AMD reports weak demand in third quarter

AMD has warned shareholders that it will miss Wall Street analysts' earnings estimates for the third quarter of 2010.

In a statement on Thursday, the chipmaker said it will deliver third-quarter revenue of about $1.65bn (£1.05bn). It added that sales in the quarter will be down between one and four percent compared with the second quarter, citing "weaker than expected demand, particularly in the consumer notebook market in Western Europe and North America".

Financial analysts were expecting AMD to deliver earnings of 12 cents a share on revenue of $1.72bn in the quarter.
