2.76 mln new domains bought in June 2005

Between June 2005 and July 2005 2.76 mln Internet domains were registered, reports NetCraft. According to the Web server survey done by the company, 67,571,581 sites were alive. June 2005 took the second place in terms of domain name registration, in March 2003 3.3 mln domains were registered. NetCraft attributed the growth in domain registrations to small businesses coming online, blogging phenomenon, speculation and growth of contextual ads programs.

So far 10.7 mln domains were registered in 2005. NetCraft forecasts 2005 will break the record for the total number of domain registrations. The record currently belongs to 2000, when 16 mln new domains were registered.
