200 mln music tracks downloaded legally in 2004

International Federation of the Phonographic Industry said music fans in the United States and Europe legally downloaded more than 200 mln tracks in 2004, up from about 20 mln in 2003. That contributed to estimated digital music revenues of around $330 mln in 2004, up sixfold from 2003.

International Federation of the Phonographic Industry said music fans in the United States and Europe legally downloaded more than 200 mln tracks in 2004, up from about 20 mln in 2003. That contributed to estimated digital music revenues of around $330 mln in 2004, up sixfold from 2003. There are now more than 230 online sites where consumers can buy music legally, up from 50 in 2003. Music on mobile phones is also becoming increasingly popular, with Asia leading the way - the Japanese ringtone market was worth $100 mln in 2004.
