27% of movie industry professionals claim to have lost revenues to piracy

According to a recent survey of Variety, Broadcasting & Cable and Multichannel News readers by In-Stat, half of TV and movie industry professionals say that piracy is a threat to their bottom lines, and 27% have already lost revenue due to the illegal theft or reproduction of their intellectual property. The survey of 1,806 respondents was conducted to better understand the entertainment community's perceptions about emerging digital technologies and their impact on electronic entertainment, and found that over one-third of film industry insiders saw a strong impact on their business today due to illegal downloading or copying.
