52.5% of telcos think customers would switch to different video provider for cost reasons

83% of telecom companies believe they can compete with cable sector, according to a Tellabs/Telephony survey. Telcos overwhelmingly believe that HDTV and IPTV services would be the most beneficial for consumers. 52.5% think that customers would switch from their current operator for cost reasons, and 83% believe that telcos will be competitive in the video business. However, 54.2% are estimating that it would take telcos 1-3 years to become fully competitive. 94.2% of telecoms believe that by 2010 voice, video and data could be served via a single converged network.
