A conversation with VKernel's Brian Semple

Brian Semple, VKernel's Chief Marketing Officer, and I had a dynamic conversation the other day concerning the topics of performance monitoring, capacity planning, reporting and how tools of that nature make it possible for an organization to deploy only the systems and other resources necessary to support their tasks and not over provision.

VKernel's approach is making useful, but light weight, tools available for download at no cost so companies can try them out. The offer more powerful tools to those who need more. Many of those tools are available for a 30-day free trial so that companies can be certain that the tool is right for them. I've noted that VKernel does its best to make its tools fit comfortably into VMware's or Microsoft's management environment and add important new features.

The company has a really tight focus on solving performance management and capacity planning problems for its customers. At this point, however, they only offer tools for VMware and Microsoft based virtual environments. When I pressed Brian on support for other hypervisors, he pointed out that those two products offer enormous opportunities for a company the size of VKernel. He hinted that if the company's customers demand support of other virtual machine software, VKernel will have product offerings. Until then, however, the company is tightly focused on VMware and Microsoft.

If their products appear to address your company's needs, I'd suggest downloading the free tools or the 30-day trials of VKernel's more powerful tools and try them out.
