The ACT Department of Education and Training has selected Australian assembler Optima as its exclusive supplier of personal computing hardware and services for the next four years.

The signing of the contract follows an evaluation of responses to a Department tender in December which called for the supply of personal computers, notebooks and peripherals for 3,500 teaching staff across 95 schools and colleges.

Optima said it would supply AU$8 million worth of equipment for the Department's Computers for Teaching program under the contract.

In addition, there was potential for another AU$7 million worth of business by supplying schools with hardware during the four years, according to the vendor.

Project management services have already begun for the contract, with the delivery of computer systems to begin soon.

Optima said it would open a satellite office in Canberra to support the contract and hire new staff.
