SINGAPORE, 20 July 2000 -- To address the requirements for next-generation e-business infrastructure, Alteon WebSystems, Inc., outlined a comprehensive Webworking framework that spans Web switching and Web computing. Central to this framework is the introduction of a new service delivery platform called the Alteon integrated ServiceDirector(tm) (Alteon iSD).

Its share price has been increasing at a steady rate over the last year, even when stocks were experiencing some form of consolidation. Its revenues for the last quarter of the year ended 30 June 2000 were about $51 million. According to Tesla Lee, Alteon's Singapore Country Manager, they are expecting revenues exceeding $400 million in FY2001.

According to Tesla Lee, Alteon's Webworking framework defines a new model for enabling the next wave of Web-based applications. Webworking augments the Internet's multi-access infrastructure with personalized and content-intelligent switching, Web application acceleration, security and bandwidth management services supported by an open application delivery system.

"A strategic part of the open application delivery system is the Alteon iSD family, a new line of Web performance optimization tools tightly integrated with Alteon's Web switches. The first Alteon iSD products include the industry's first SSL accelerator that scales to Gigabit speeds, the Alteon iSD-SSL accelerator, and the industry's first transparent "Akamaizer," the Alteon iSD-Akamaizer," said Mr Lee.

Alteon iSDs speed the delivery of Web traffic by offloading specific compute-intensive functions from servers. Purpose-built to perform processing tasks with long duty-cycles that would otherwise bog down network performance, Alteon iSDs are integrated with Alteon Web switches to offer the best of Web switching and appliance technologies.

The Alteon iSD-SSL accelerator and the Alteon iSD-Akamaizer are currently in beta testing, and Alteon's Asia-Pacific offices in Hong Kong, China, Taiwan, Korea, Japan, Singapore and Australia expect volume shipments to begin in September.
