AppAsure: Good stuff but is it virtualization?

Naj Husain, CEO, and Dan Soschin, Director of Marketing, both of AppAssure, brought me up to speed on Replay VRA, a tool that protects messaging-based environments that include BlackBerry Enterprise Server as well as Microsoft's Exchange, SQL Server and SharePoint. While Reply VRA appears to work in virtualized environments and offers some valuable capabilities, it of itself really isn't virtualization technology.

That being said, the ability to capture vital information about systems, applications and data and then save it in a "virtual recovery environment" would go a long way towards supporting a rapid failover of workloads from physcial or virtual hosts.

I was impressed at the thinking behind the virtual recovery environment and see that it could be the foundation of a number of useful and interesting workload availability products and services. It could also be the "brains" behind useful workload performance and configuration analysis products that AppAssure haven't yet discussed with the world.
