Apple boss paves way for redundancies
Apple CEO and chairman Gilbert Amelio paved the way for a dramatic bout of redundancies yesterday at his Internet World keynote speech in Los Angeles.
Amelio confirmed the widely expected announcement that Apple will lay off a "significant" number of staff later this week but didn't discuss other restructuring plans for the company. Several reports suggest that the sale of the Newton PDA division could be a key component.
"We cannot be in every market," said Amelio. "We have to focus ... on the things that we do best."
