Apple ordered to pay $302.4 million to VirnetX in patent infringement retrial
A federal jury has ordered Apple to pay more than $302.4 million in damages, in a secure computer and mobile communications patent retrial against VirnetX.

Friday's verdict was the third in the ongoing patent dispute that began in 2010, with two earlier verdicts overturned by appeal and an East Texas federal judge.
The two patents relate to Apple's FaceTime calling feature. The damages included what Apple must pay to use the patents.
Bloomberg reported court documents show VirnetX, a company which makes most of its money from patent licensing, will seek further damages for willful infringement in a later hearing.
Apple's legal battles aren't close to over. VirnetX has a second lawsuit in the courts, claiming Apple infringed on its patents with iMessage and security features. It's made up of patents thrown out in the judge's second appeal during the first case.

Apple isn't the only company to feel the pain of VirnetX. Microsoft has settled out of court with the patent troll twice, paying $200 million and $23 million over Skype patents.
