AT&T and HTC will roll out the Inspire 4G on 13 February for $99.99

Now that AT&T is losing the iPhone exclusive they are getting serious about Android and are launching one of the most successful form factor devices in the HTC Inspire 4G.

In my opinion, AT&T has made a half-hearted effort to provide Android smartphones in the past and I can't really blame them when they had the exclusive on the iPhone. That exclusive changes next week as Verizon launches the iPhone 4 and now we see AT&T getting serious about Android. AT&T and HTC just announced that the HTC Inspire 4G will be available starting 13 February for only $99.99 with a two-year contract. This is a fantastic price for a device that follows along with the highly successful EVO 4G design and form factor. An Inspire 4G arrives for me to evaluate this week so stay tuned for a hands-on article before launch next week.

The HTC Inspire 4G will have the largest display of any AT&T smartphone at 4.3 inches. Other key specifications include:

  • 1 GHz Snapdragon processor
  • Android 2.2 OS
  • 8 megapixel camera with dual LED flash
  • Unibody aluminum design
  • HSPA+ support
  • AT&T Mobile Hotspot service
  • 4GB internal with microSD card slot (8GB card included)

There is not really much here that screams innovative and new, but this appears to be an excellent device that should appeal to AT&T customers looking for a solid Android device. I hope there isn't too much AT&T junk on there as they tend to go overboard on anything that isn't from Apple. I think the EVO 4G is one of the best Android devices still available and since this is virtually the same it too may be the best, until the dual-core processors and other Android 2.3 devices come out soon.
