In a move to be more "customer friendly," AT&T said Tuesday that it is altering its fee structure for customers that change wireless calling plans.

According to a statement from AT&T, customers who change to any of the company's plans during a current contract won't have to extend their contract or enter a new one.

Meanwhile, customers who exit a contract early won't have to pay a flat termination fee. The fee will be progressively lowered throughout the term of the contract. Beginning in 2008, the early termination policy will apply to new and renewing wireless customers who ink one to two-year service agreements.

AT&T trumpeted these policies and policy flexibility. But these policies should have been standard in the first place. Techmeme has more.
