Effort measures Dynamo developers

Art Technology Group Inc. Tuesday unveiled a certification program, which the company says will let customers rate partners and provide partners with a point of differentiation.

ATG's Certified Professional Program focuses on the company's Dynamo e-Business Platform with testing provided through Prometric Testing Centers worldwide. The first certification level, ATG Certified Dynamo Developer: Fundamentals & Data Access, will concentrate on application server skills and knowledge. The company says additional certifications will be offered in such areas as e-commerce and e-customer relationship management.

Customers prompted ATG to roll out a certification program, citing the need for a base of minimum standards for measuring Dynamo developers, according to ATG. Certification also will help "differentiate [partners] in a tough competitive market," says Jonna Stopnik, ATG's director of alliances.

Prior to the program's launch, a beta examination was given to certification candidates. The pass rate was 68 percent, according to the company.

Stopnik says experienced developers may be able to "test out" and receive certification without taking certification classes. But for those needing to study up on Dynamo, ATG offers a certification curriculum and provides both classroom and computer-based training.

Now that the certification program is in place, participants in ATG's Dynamo Partner Program must have a certain number of certified Dynamo developers on staff. The number of certified developers required varies by the type of partnering arrangement; the Dynamo Partner Program contains five partner categories.
