The Australian Government Solicitor (AGS) is poised to implement a new document and records management system (EDRMS) designed to boost its collaborative working and knowledge management strategies.

The AGS -- a nationwide legal firm owned by the Australian government -- said today the system would be critical to improving information management throughout the organisation.

The organisation said it had selected a solution from the Objective Corporation after a competitive tender and extensive evaluation process.

"The project has far reaching implications for the way work is done at AGS, it will be the core business system used by all lawyers and support staff across Australia" said Noela L'Estrange, director of AGS Legal Practice Support.

According to a statement released by Objective, the EDRMS was chosen for its compatibility with AGS' current business processes and its potential to deliver improved business outcomes. The solution will be integrated into the daily workings of all AGS staff, becoming the new point of reference for information on legal precedents and research.

"One of the greatest benefits to our practice will come from the improvements to collaborative working...This will simplify document authoring, both within teams of lawyers, and also with clients, regardless of their location," said L'Estrange.
