Australia's broadband connections pass milestone
According the report, the number of broadband services connected in Australia rose by 349,100 during the first six months of 2004 to 1,047,800 at the end of June 2004, said ACCC commissioner Ed Willett.
"In the June 2004 quarter, broadband growth increased to 26.3 per cent, up from 18.7 per cent in the previous quarter," he said.
The ACCC said the June 2004 quarter take-up, equating to 218,500, was "the largest quarterly increase since the inception of the survey", with a year-on-year comparison showing broadband connection has increased by 102.7 percent, or by 516,800 service connections since June 2003.
The ACCC said the quarterly growth for 2004 also exceeded that of 2003, which recorded a 22 percent growth from first to second quarter.
The report showed that DSL services continued to achieve the highest quarterly growth rate.
The data for the snapshot was taken from major Australian broadband service carriers.
