BlackBerry users able to print anywhere
RIM and HP will release software next year that allows the printing of e-mail and attachments to any printer within the same corporate network as the BlackBerry user's e-mail account.
Research In Motion and Hewlett-Packard on Tuesday plan to demonstrate software that will let RIM BlackBerry users print files to any printer within their company's computer networks.
HP and RIM said the jointly developed software, which will be available by early next year, allows the printing of e-mail and attachments to any printer within the same corporate network as the BlackBerry user's e-mail account. The program, like RIM's e-mail redirecting software, sits on a server within a corporate firewall.
The new software is the first tie between the two companies, but further joint efforts could be in the offing.
"We haven't announced anything, but we are looking for other areas of synergy," said Mark Guibert, RIM's vice president of brand management.
The two companies plan to demonstrate the printing technology Tuesday at the Cellular Telecommunications and Internet Association conference in San Diego.
