180 new kiosks at Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted...

BT has won an £18m contract to install up to 180 internet kiosks and 350 payphones at Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted airports.

A key part of the deal with British Airports Authority (BAA) will see BT replace one-third of the existing payphones with BT internet kiosks that will allow passengers to surf the web, check emails and make phone calls.

Both companies will also offer advertising and sponsored content services on the kiosks as an additional revenue stream.

Colin Hargrave, BAA retail director UK airports, said in a statement: "We are committed to offering the best possible airport experience to our passengers. Internet access is an important part of that and this project offers tangible benefits for all."

BT said the deal is the first of its kind and described it as a "pivotal win" with 112 million passengers passing through these airports each year. The company has already installed 1,500 internet kiosks in public locations around the UK.
