Call your mother on Easter with your new Apple iPad

Truphone announced their new iPad-optimized version that is available now to give you VoIP calling and IM capability. This should be a great way to contact loved ones during the Easter weekend.

The more I read and watch about the Apple iPad the more excited I get about its arrival at my house tomorrow morning. I was honestly thinking about not making an iPad purchase as it just seemed like a big iPod touch, but the user interface really seems to take the iPhone/iPod touch to the next level and the apps look fantastic. I have already spent over $50 in apps and downloaded them, along with several free ones, to my MacBook Pro in anticipation of loading up my iPad as soon as it arrives. I am receiving LOTS of press releases for iPad-optimized applications and one that particularly caught my eye that I was wondering about has to do with phone call capability on the iPad. Truphone let us know that they posted an iPad version of their VoIP software on the iTunes App Store so you will be able to call your friends and family this Easter through your iPad.

Truphone was the first to launch a VoIP application on the iPhone/iPod touch so I imagine their iPad app will be quite refined and useful. With Truphone you can make calls to other Truphone and Google Talk users over WiFi and also place international calls to mobile phones and landlines for as low as 5 cents per minute. They have other pricing plans available too.

Truphone can also be used as an IM client on your iPad, which is honestly how I use their service more since I tend to make very few calls. Their instant messaging integration connects you with AIM, Yahoo! Messenger, Google Talk, and Windows Live Messenger.
