CastPainter 1.0 ships

Totally Hip Software Inc. has put the finishing touches on CastPainter, its cel-animation tool for use with Macromedia Director.

The package shipped at this week's Macromedia User Conference 97 in San Francisco for $149, $100 less than originally announced (see 05.19.97, Page 19.)

According to the company, CastPainter 1.0 is modeled after the interface of the Paint and Cast windows in Director 6. A stand-alone application, CastPainter has a small memory footprint that allows it to be run concurrently with Director, Totally Hip said.

Users can create cast-member graphics from scratch with the program's Pencil, Paintbrush, Smudge, Text, Eraser, Paint Bucket, Magic Wand, Eyedropper and Polygon tools; they can also import and edit files in a variety of formats, including layered Adobe Photoshop documents.

CastPainter ships with import and export Xtras that allow users to bring their cast members into and out of Director.
