CES 2010: Powermat gets smart, offers swappable batteries for popular handsets
The makers of the Powermat wireless charging system said on Wednesday that they will ditch the clunky $40 receiver cases needed for handsets and offer new swappable batteries for HTC, Blackberry, Nokia, LG, Samsung, Motorola and Sony Ericsson phones.
That's a big deal -- readers of this blog may recall that I slammed the company back in October for taking my poor little iPod touch hostage.
The batteries can be inserted into the back of the phone and allow the phone to charge wirelessly just by sitting on a mat. Better still, the receivers are now offered in pliable silicone, and not hard plastic, and the Powermats themselves have been revamped into three flavors: 1X, 2X and 3X, depending on how many charging spots you need.
The company also introduced a charging station for netbooks, called the Powermat 3X Netbook.
Say what you want about the sensibility of the product itself, but I applaud the makers of Powermat for smarting up and improving on their product with haste.
No prices or release dates were announced.
