From the land that brought you dangerous toys and poisonous food, there are now...Chinese commercial airliners.

As reported by Bloomberg, they don't expect to sell many planes:

"We're well aware that in the international market there's not a very good impression of China's ability to build commercial aircraft,'' [Vice President Hu Wenming, the manufacturer's vice president,] said at a conference in Hong Kong in September. "That's why we're not expecting a big purchase order before we launch the project.''

Given my personal desire for low failure rates in air safety, I'm glad they won't be putting lots of these into the market soon.

Update: Some commenters took this post to be a general indictment of China. It wasn't meant that way at all. Rather, it was merely a statement of personal concern over product safety. My apologies for the confusion if you were offended.
