Networking giant Cisco Systems has appointed Park Nosung as its new director for service provider operations North Asia.

Park was formerly the vice president of Cisco's service provider sales in Korea. In his new role, Korea-based Park's responsibilities will now span across six Asian countries under Cisco's North Asian territory--Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, Hong Kong, the Philippines and Vietnam, the company said.

Cisco added Park's appointment is testament to the growing potential of the regional service provider market. In North Asia, Korea currently accounts bulk of the service provider sales at 54 percent. Companies in emerging markets like Vietnam, the Philippines and Thailand can model after Korean service providers' network infrastructure and other technology implementations, Park said.

Prior to joining Cisco, Park was with AT&T Bell Labs in the United States and Hyundai Electronics' wireless business unit.

ZDNet Korea's Sejin Kim reported from Seoul.
