Compaq to buy Digital in $9.6b deal

Compaq gave proper notice of its intention to be the number one computer company in the world by announcing a shock plan to acquire Digital for $9.6 billion.

The deal will make Compaq the second biggest computer maker in the world. The companies have long been linked as potential merger partners.
