Corel Corp. and MetaCreations Corp. on Monday announced that Corel has purchased three of MetaCreations' graphics packages. According to the companies, Ottawa-based Corel bought Painter, Kai's Power Tools and KPT Vector Effects, all of which run on Windows and the Mac OS. Carpinteria, Calif.-based MetaCreations will continue to offer customer service on the products until June 30.

The fate of MetaCreations' graphic packages have been the subject of speculation since December, when the company announced it would divest itself of most of its core applications to focus on e-commerce tools. -- Matthew Rothenberg, ZDNet News
