D-Link has launched a new security appliance to help small and medium-sized businesses protect against malicious hacking, Internet snooping and viruses.

The DFL-700 Security Desktop VPN Firewall is said to have been designed specifically for SMBs that do not have dedicated IT departments.

"We deliberately made the DFL-700 firewall easy for non-professionally IT-trained users to install and use," said Peter Lim, D-Link's marketing director, in a statement.

The product's features include packet inspection firewall, advanced content filtering, an intrusion detection system, bandwidth management, as well as VPN support.

To cater to SMBs with mobile employees, the appliance is able to support and manage up to 200 VPN connections.

The product is priced at S$990 (US$590.95) and is available throughout the Asia-Pacific region.
