DataLogic adapter adds VoIP to PBX

All pre-installed PBX features remain available once v11 IP Phone Adapter is installed.

DataLogic International announced last week that its low-cost VoIP adapter can be used with Private Branch Exchange (PBX) phone systems.

The v11 IP Phone Adapter enables a company's PBX to be configured to make and receive VoIP calls. The adapter is made by DataLogic subsidiary IPN Communications and works with any standard PBX, DataLogic claimed.

Installing the v11 doesn't require switching all phone services to VoIP. Rather, the adapter supports hybrid operation; a company can maintain its traditional phone service while still taking advantage of VoIP calling.

Because the v11 requires no additional hardware or special IP phones, companies can leverage existing phone equipment. All pre-installed PBX features, such as voice mail, call forwarding, and call transfer, remain available to callers once the v11 is installed.

The device supports DHCP, PPPoE, and H.323/SIP, and can automatically obtain the local IP, subnet mask, and router IP. It requires no software to download or install; any necessary reprogramming can be performed via a Web console. Installation involves little more than plugging an Internet connection into one port and the PBX into another.

The v11 IP Phone Adapter costs $85 and is available immediately. DataLogic charges 2.9 cents per minute for calls made inside the U.S. to non-IP phones; rates for calls outside the U.S. vary depending on location and are listed on the company's Web site.
