At the Gartner IT Expo in Orlando Dell announced what it calls (and has trademarked) On-Demand Desktop Streaming. Basically, the company has dressed up a thin client-based,  solution, using Citrix software for streaming operating systems, applications and data, with a fancy name using the current buzzwords"on demand" and "streaming."

The On-Demand Desktop Streaming solution can power 100 diskless Dell OptiPlex 745 or OptiPlex 755 desktops (due in November) with a Dell PowerEdge™ 2950 server, PowerConnect Gigabit switch and a PowerEdge 2900 storage server. Dell is claiming that is can lower labor costs by up to 56 percent, which is similar to what Wyse, nComputing, HP, Sun, IBM and others offering thin clients solutions maintain. Dell is differentiating its solution from thin client and blade systems, which aren't as full featured as Dell's OptiPlex desktops.
