Avaya announced Kennedy's appointment in October last year. He previously held the position of CEO in broadband and optical company JDS Uniphase.

A spokesperson for the company said Kennedy planned an Asia-Pacific tour with Australia set to be one of the stops, but could give no further details of his itinerary, which had not yet been finalised. The spokesperson believed his time would be divided between mingling with the company's staff in the region and getting to know key customers.

"It's been a while since a CEO has visited," the spokesperson told ZDNet.com.au. "We're pleased to be on the map, especially so early in his role."

Charles Giancarlo, previously Avaya's president and CEO, became chairman of Avaya's board of directors, also effective 5 January.
