EMC Corporation yesterday announced EMC Documentum Enterprise Content Integration (ECI) Services, a software product that enables users to discover, access, and assimilate information from multiple sources, in multiple languages, with a singe query.

Documentum ECI Services enables integration of heterogeneous content, from enterprise applications databases, content-management systems, and groupware to Internet sources such as search engines, industry-specific databases, local archives, government portals, and syndicated content providers.

EMC says the software’s powerful analytics capabilities enable end-users to quickly access and analyze the results of their queries, thereby saving time in researching across multilingual content sources.

The software delivers its search results in a single window, with duplicate results automatically merged to eliminate extraneous data. Search results are grouped into categories based on similar words and phrases, enabling users to review results by concepts and zero in on targeted information. Queried sources can be monitored for changes, and users can be notified if any updates are found. After a completed search, users can rank the applicability of the results; Documentum ECI Services will automatically adjust subsequent searches for more precise results.

Another feature, Content Snapshot, automatically extracts key sentences to create an abstract of each source, giving users an overview without the need to open specific documents.

Documentatum ECI Services runs on Linux, Solaris, and Windows platforms. It is an open software product that can be used in conjunction with the Documentum Enterprise Content Management platform, with other content-management products, or as a standalone tool.

The software is available immediately, with pricing based on the number of content sources and users. Average pricing is around $100,000, according to an EMC representative.
