EnerNOC inks deal with California utility

Chances are, you're more likely to think about your energy use when you're staying in dismay at your electricity bill. That's probably one of the motivators for the deal that energy management software and demand response company EnerNOC has just signed with California's Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E).

The deal calls for PG&E to provide its commercial and industrial customers in northern and central California with SiteSmart, which is one of its core energy data analytics applications specifically targeted at facilities management. Not only does the software keep track of what's going on, it offers up recommendations about how to fix a given problem. And it does this over time: In other words, it may have a different recommendation depending on the month or year or as a facility moves from periods of full utilization to slower usage.

PG&E customers that decide to sign on to use SiteSmart will get the setup and the first year of data reporting services for free.
