eviGroup has a new tablet computer coming out soon, and it has a much cuter name than "iPad." The Paddle is also a little fancier than the iPad, but strikingly more expensive.

The Paddle has a unique-looking interface called Scale, a 3D vector design that navigates through a suite of work and media programs. While eviGroup says its a Windows-based program, they're looking to make the program open-source and eventually release an SDK. The interface looks like it would make me dizzy, but eviGroup claims it a "fluid" system, so I'd need to try it to be sure.

The eviGroup tablet PC also has an interesting storage option. Buyers can either opt for a 160/250/320GB hard drive or a 16/32GB SSD.

Here's a closer look at some of the stats on the Paddle:

  • 10.1-inch LED-backlit multi-touch display
  • Intel Atom N270 1.6Ghz processor
  • Optional Wi-Fi antenna for extra range
  • 3G-enabled
  • Microphone
  • Built-in webcam

The "basic version" of the Paddle will start shipping in Europe some time between April and June for €699 ($946). However, it's not clear which size hard drive or SSD that entails, so at this point, it seems way over price when compared to the iPad that starts at $499 with 16GB of flash memory.
